Traci and Patric - Maui

This was my first Hawaii wedding. I purposely avoided looking around the internet to see what other "Hawaii" weddings looked like so that I wouldn't subconsciously be drawn to the beach stereo types. The reason Traci and Patric hired me was to avoid having a "resort" photographer turn their wedding into a cookie cutter, grip and grin session (kind of like having your photo taken with Santa in the mall). We were going to be there for a couple of weeks before the wedding, which was plenty of time to get some ideas ofhow I wanted to integrate the Maui landscape into Traci and Patric's portrait session.

There really was no shortage of locations and we pretty much stayed within the Wailea and Kihei areas on the south west coast of the island. Here is what I came up with.

Couldn't resist using a pineapple for something.

I love the greens Maui has to offer and there is no shortage of wind to add some life.

Patric dressed local and it just looked right.

The ceremony was held out side just above the Wailea Beach. They timed it to end at sunset and fortunately they were treated to a great evening.

The groomsmen's reaction to the first kiss. All boys know you should never look at people kissing. Its disgusting.

The scene while they were signing the register.

I guess you can't go all the way to Maui without getting at least one "beach" shot.

relaxing

We've been in Maui for a few days now and the weather has been shitacular. No worries though, we've spent a few rainy days at the beach and have been enjoying the room temp climate. One of the highlights for me has been Costco. They sell a box of "world beers". 12 beers from all over the world. Its kind of like a box of chocolates. The Peroni and Birra Moretti (Italian favourites) went first, then I worked my way through Europe. Now I'm jumping around South Asia. On Saturday I plan on visiting Australia for a Fosters and then across the puddle to NZ for a Steinlager. Sadly they chose Molson Ice for the Canadian representative. Might be showing that one the drain.

Here's a quick pick from our attempted trip to Hana. We realized about 30 minutes into the trip that we forgot the diaper bag. We've been parents long enough to sniff out the start of a potentially bad day, so we turned around and headed for the beach.

I tried to salvage something by grabbing a quick photo. Every other car is a red, convertible, so why go against the flow.
